Sports Centre Manager
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Sports Centre Manager to lead the day-to-day operation of a modern sports and leisure facility. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering excellent customer experiences, driving participation and revenue. Managing staff and ensuring the centre operates safely and efficiently. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong operational, commercial, and people-management skills.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Management
Oversee the daily operation of the sports centre, ensuring smooth and efficient running at all times
Ensure compliance with health & safety legislation, safeguarding policies and operational standards
Manage facility maintenance, cleanliness and equipment to a high standard
Develop and implement operational procedures and service improvements
Leadership & People Management
Recruit, train, manage and motivate centre staff, including duty managers, instructors and support teams
Set clear performance expectations and conduct regular reviews
Manage rotas, staffing levels and absence to ensure effective cover
Foster a positive, inclusive and customer-focused team culture
Customer Experience & Community Engagement
Deliver a high-quality customer experience across all services and facilities
Handle customer feedback and complaints professionally and proactively
Build strong relationships with local clubs, schools and community groups
Promote participation, memberships and programmes
Commercial & Financial Management
Manage budgets, control costs and maximise revenue opportunities
Monitor KPIs including attendance, membership, income and customer satisfaction
Identify and implement initiatives to grow usage and profitability
Support marketing and promotional activity to increase footfall
Programme & Service Delivery
Oversee sports programmes, classes, events and facility bookings
Ensure timetables meet customer demand and maximise facility usage
Support the development of new activities and services
Requirements
Person Specification
Essential
Proven experience in managing a sports, leisure or fitness facility
Strong people-management and leadership skills
Excellent customer service and communication skills
Good understanding of health & safety and safeguarding requirements
Commercial awareness with experience managing budgets and targets
Ability to work flexibly, including evenings and weekends
Desirable
Relevant qualification in sports management, leisure management, or similar
First Aid, Safeguarding, and Health & Safety qualifications
Experience working with local authorities, schools, or sports organisations
